This stop has ART GALORE!!
Lizzy (the tractor) is an icon. She is a steam tractor, imported in 1889.
The tractor was used to clear much of the local countryside and is a well-restored relic of an era long-gone. Lizzy worked with her twin to clear many of the original properties in and around Gnowangerup. Her twin is located near the approach to Albany.
NOTE: Be sure to take a look at the amazing murals on the IGA building. These are the work of Jerome Davenport (#Ketones6000), and feature some special flora and fauna from the Stirling Range NP.
The beautiful street art panels looking north down the street are the work of renowned Albany artist "Sue Codee".
Just past the IGA, on the opposite side of the road, is the iconic "Ned Kelly Sculpture." You can read about his connection with our local history there.
The public toilets are adjacent to this icon, and also feature an Art Project. This mosaic was completed as part of a community art venture where a mosaic specialist worked with ordinary members of our town to create this spectacular display!
