Blaze is a tribute to our district's Volunteer Fire Fighters.
In rural communities, we don't have a 'fire station' to come and save us--we have to do it ourselves!
"Blaze became a concept after the devastating bushfires of December 2019, which wiped out around 40,000 hectares of bushland in the Stirling Range National Park. Whilst overlooking the vast, charred, bare and fire-ravaged mountains, the idea for a tribute to the brave men and women who fought to contain the inferno was born.
Blaze is inspired by a vintage fire-truck. These volunteers--some who joined in from around the state of WA worked in extremely hazardous conditions, around the clock to ensure the safety of houses, farmlands, businesses, caravan parks and to preserve lives.
Their work also helped to protect the unique bio-diversity of the Stirlings, which is renowned.
Funding for this restoration was through a partnership with North Stirling Pallinup Natural Resources group through the FRRR Stronger Communities funding.
